1 Load a playlist which (by e.g. referencing non-existent track) causes the "cannot be accessed" dialog to appear.
2 Press ALT+TAB

Expected: Mp3tag icon as usual.
Observed: no Mp3tag icon.

Win XP SP3.

I think that application-modal generic system dialogues in general do not have an application icon.

That's not my experience. E.g.

1 Launch Notepad
2 Enter text
3 Click File > Exit
4 See dialog "The text in the Untitled file has changed. Do you want to save the changes?"
5 Click app title bar - focus reamins on dialog, verifying dialog is app-modal
6 Press ALT+TAB

Expected: Notepad icon shows
Observed: Notepad icon shows

The other example:
Close Outlook in a condition where it asks whether something should be done before exiting (e.g. empty the bin): only one icon shows (that of the main application, no indication that there is a message box open), that of the main window.
Excel, Word, Powerpoint show the behaviour you described.

So we have got two MS applications with different behaviour which means that apparently both are allowed/possible and therefore IMHO hardly a bug.
Admittedly, it would be more user-friendly if one could associate the dialogue with an application.

Evidently you don't accept the possibility of a bug in an MS app. I do.

I just tried various non-MS apps, from Firefox to Beyond Compare. All showed the app icon.
