Failed Authentication to Discogs

Can't authenticate into Discogs. Logged into discog revoked but did not solve the problem.

Where are the instructions to connect to Discogs.

Thanks

perhaps here: /t/19108/1

Like the previous writer, I too had followed the instructions, but with no results. it must be something ony affecting a few people. I'll keep a look out ofr a solution. As with the previous writer, it just seems to correct it self over time.

  1. is there a way to get the older version. Although I'm rhinking it won't work with the new Dscog configuration.

Need assistance in narrowing the possible issues of not authenticating with Discogs. i was hoping the next release would solve the problem but it hasn't. Followed the instructions caefully. and tried:

here's the latestest.

  1. Discogs has worked since all other versiobs. Not being able to authenticate only occurred after updating to version c, then. d & now e with the same issue.

If i find the album on the discog webpage, copy the URL and paste into MP3Tag it works.

  1. If I open a previous file/folder tagged using MP3Yag it opens with no problem

  2. i've ruled out the firewall / router by using a mobile system, disabled my AV software but get the same result - can't authenticate.

  3. i created a new Discogs acct, but get the same issue.

Any ideas I have not thought of persuing. Could i be something in the script causing it not to access connect to discogs.

Last, can I maNUALLY CREATE A KEY AND ADD IT TO mp3TAG SCRIPT./

I think I see the problem with authenticating with Discogs. Not sure why, but it seems it doesn't recognize the discogs page. I'll try to explain.

Following the instructions, click Discogs script under Tag Source... get an instant reply can't authenticate.

However, if I open the discogs script, and click the link Windows opens and says I must first authenticate...

Somehow, the link doesn't request the page to open.

If I open a previous version of the script say 2.82. Click the link it takes me to the Discogs login page and allows me to enter my credentials.

But, again, with the current lnik under 2.83e, it seems the api link never gets to the Discogs site simply says you must authenticate forst... any ideas..

(See other comments) below where I manally enter the Album URL and it populates the fields.

Thanks

Hi,
i have absolutely the same problem with Discogs. I couldn't solve the Problem yet, but i tried Mp3Tag on an absolutely new PC with Win10 new installed.
All worked fine, the Diskogs Website came up and asked my die authorize the application and gave me a code for Mp3Tag.
But i don't want to install my Windows new on my other computer.

What can i do?

Have a look at Discogs authorization doesn't work

Hi,

renaming the mp3tag.cfg file does not resolve the problem for me. I still cannot use Discogs :frowning:

That was the last step.
What about all the other steps in post
[X] Discogs authorization doesn't work

And naturally, you should take the basic test to see if Mp3tag can access the internet at all: check for a new version with Help>Check for updates.
No message box - no internet access.

Hi,
i follwed all the instruction made in the other thread, but the reaction is exactly the same as there.
The window "401" comes up before anything other can hapen.
Certainly the internet access ist working.

No solution till now :-((

regards

Found this solution seems to work for me.

Sync Windows Clock. I'be been at it for about a week with no success. Read about resync clock and restart. MP3Tag is up and running.

Yeah,

this was was the right solution. I tried to syncronize the time with no succes, then changed the time-server, synconized and yeah
Authorization with Discogs worked all running fine!!

Thanks for that!

My guess that synchronizing Windows time worked serendipitously for those whose clock was indeed off. But for the rest, it did not work.

This works: in the search term field that comes up (when you want to use Mp3tag to query Discogs), REMOVE any non standard characters (those which might be ubiquitous in a database search) and try again. Maybe reword the term to be more specific too. Or add the artist's name in a simple format. This may happen if the existing tag (which has been done by someone else) is sloppy (for want of a better word).

Terms such as "Vol. 4" WILL garner a '401' or NOT AUTHORIZED.

Mp3tag arbitrarily picks a field to search from and it may not work in searching the Discogs database.

The developer may not be able to remedy this in the program to suit the finicky Discogs db, but perhaps add a note in the release notes?

This has been fixed with Mp3tag v2.83a:

Florian, you completely rock!!!!!!!! I am doing a cassette to digital' and 'import CD to digital' project for an iPod owner and I would be lost without Mp3tag.... iTunes does not do the job I want in producing proper tags....

PayPal incoming........

Now - July 2018 - this has started for me, I've used Discogs for ages with complete success, but now I get a permanent failure to authenticate. I get the error: "Failed to authenticate using OAuth (1). >> 12029: 12029: A connection with the server could not be established"

Like other posters, I have revoked at Discogs and this has not helped.

This started with 2.88a, and still happens with v2.86 and 2.87.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance, Brian.

I was at v2.87 and encountered this same OAuth (1) error. So, I checked for update and installed v2.88, but still continued to receive same error. As mentioned above, I Revoked my current app @ discogs, but the OAuth (1) error continues. I've also found that MusicBrainz doesn't give results for any simple words or phrases used. FreeDB still functions.

Same problem here. Same error 12029 12029 with Discogs. MusicBrainz doesn't give results for any simple words or phrases used. FreeDB still functions.

see this thread on the 12029 error:
